Training In Carotid Duplex Scanning (Mailshot Sent 22/09/09)
Dear SVT Member
The Department of Health National Stroke Strategy is aiming to revolutionise stroke care through raising public awareness of the condition and improving the assessment, management and treatment of TIA / stroke patients. The strategy has led to an inevitable increase in demand for carotid duplex ultrasound scans and there is currently a national shortfall in the number of healthcare professionals capable of performing these scans. In order to achieve the required throughput to the necessary standard there is a need for quality training and certification of many more carotid ultrasound practitioners.
The SVT are currently looking at ways in which we could help address this issue and we are hoping all SVT members will use this thread to enter into dialogue.
In addition, to get an idea of what is happening across the various regions we are collecting information from members in the form of a questionnaire (which has been sent out to all SVT members today). Please could I ask all Department Leads to help with this by urgently completing and returning the questionnaire to me as soon as possible.
I look forward to hearing from you.
